Notes

Uses nonfiction books for AI training purposes | The deal is for three years and authors must opt-in to be included. Terms of the agreement were one-off, not an ongoing AI licensing right. Additional contract terms limit verbatim reproduction and avoid pirated content. From an interview by Publisher's Weekly, the Authors Guild CEO Mary Rasenberger had a positive view on the deal with respect to splitting payments with authors and protective terms against reproduction. HarperAcademic is the Academic Department of HarperCollins, which includes non-fiction titles and instructor resources for high school and college levels. Though specifc titles for licensed content were not disclosed, the AI agreement may have included HarperAcademic content.
